Museums Open THURSDAY, FRIDAY, & SATURDAY May 1st - September 30th, 1:00 - 4:00 〰️

We believe understanding and appreciation of our historic heritage is essential to maintaining a unique and meaningful identity as a community.

Meet our new museum staff … Morgan West and Carrie Forgacs

Carrie joins Muskingum County History as the Director of Operations. She brings many years experience in education, museum programming and interpretation.  Recently completing her Masters in Native American Studies/Education, her passion for historical stories, artifacts, and love of  learning has guided her enthusiasm to explore and share history.

Morgan is a senior history major at OUZ and a local fiber artist interning with Muskingum County History this summer. She has lived in Avondale in Muskingum county most of her life and is exited to share historical methods of textile preparation such as spinning, dyeing, and knitting. In the future, Morgan plans to continue teaching history in a professional capacity. She also plans to pursue further research into women's religious communities in early Ohio settlements.

Engage with Muskingum County’s rich history by visiting the Stone Academy Historic Site and Museum, the Dr. Increase Mathews House Museum and Gardens or learn about Putnam’s involvement in the Underground Railroad at the UGRR Interpretive Center at the Stone Academy. Join us for fun education at any of our free events throughout the year.
